NC Lock

Privacy Policy & User Agreement

Effective date: 2025 · Version 1.0
NC Lock is built on a simple principle: your private files are yours alone. Everything stays on your device. Nothing is collected, transmitted, or shared — ever.

1. Who We Are

NC Lock is an Android application developed and maintained by an individual developer as part of the NC app family. The app is offered as a personal file-security utility with no commercial data operations of any kind.

2. What We Do Not Collect

NC Lock collects no data whatsoever. Specifically:

The app contains no advertising, no tracking libraries, and no third-party analytics SDKs of any kind.

3. No Internet Access

NC Lock does not request the internet permission and is technically incapable of transmitting any data to any server. You can verify this yourself at any time: Android Settings → Apps → NC Lock → Permissions.

All encryption, decryption, and file viewing happen entirely on your device. No file, thumbnail, filename, password, or vault key ever leaves your phone.

4. Permissions We Use

NC Lock requests only the permissions strictly necessary for its function:

5. How Your Files Are Protected

Every file you import is encrypted on your device using AES-256-CBC encryption. Encrypted files are stored inside NC Lock's private app storage, which is inaccessible to other apps, your Gallery, and Android's media scanner.

Your password is never stored. The app uses PBKDF2 key derivation with a random per-install salt to derive the encryption key from your password at the time of unlocking.

When viewing photos, files are decrypted directly into memory. When playing videos, the file is decrypted to a temporary path and that temporary file is securely wiped as soon as you leave the player — it is never left on disk.

The vault locks automatically every time NC Lock goes to the background. Your password is required every time you return.

6. Password & Recovery

Your password and any recovery secrets are never stored or transmitted anywhere. NC Lock offers three optional, independent recovery methods you may configure:

Any one of these, alone, is sufficient to recover vault access. If you enable none of them and forget your password, your files cannot be recovered by anyone — not by you, not by the developer, not by any data recovery service. There is no backdoor and no reset mechanism.

Repeated failed recovery attempts trigger increasing wait times to prevent brute-force guessing.

Biometric unlock (fingerprint/face) provides fast daily access but cannot reset your password — this is intentional. If biometric enrolment changes on your device, biometric access to NC Lock is automatically revoked.

7. Data Storage & Risk Disclosure

Where your files live. All encrypted files are stored exclusively in NC Lock's private app storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere.

If you uninstall NC Lock. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes your entire vault, including all encrypted files. Android removes an app's private storage on uninstall. Export any files you want to keep before uninstalling.

If your device is lost or damaged. Because your vault exists only on this device, losing the device means losing the vault. NC Lock has no cloud backup by design — this is what keeps your files private, but it means you are responsible for any backups you require.

If you clear app data. Clearing NC Lock's data in Android Settings deletes your vault and password setup permanently, exactly like uninstalling.

8. User Agreement

By installing and using NC Lock, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

Acceptance. Your installation and continued use of NC Lock constitutes acceptance of this agreement in full. If you do not agree, please uninstall the app after exporting any stored files.

Optional, self-managed recovery. NC Lock offers three optional recovery methods you may set up. You are solely responsible for keeping any recovery secrets safe. If you enable no recovery methods, or lose or forget all methods you did enable, forgotten passwords result in permanent, irreversible loss of access to encrypted files. The developer bears no responsibility for such loss, nor for loss resulting from a recovery secret being discovered or guessed by someone else.

Data responsibility. You are solely responsible for your files, your password, any recovery methods you enable, and maintaining any backups you require. You understand that uninstalling the app, clearing its data, or losing your device permanently destroys the vault.

Lawful use. You agree to use NC Lock only for lawful purposes and only to store content you have the legal right to possess.

No warranty. NC Lock is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. While the app uses industry-standard AES-256 encryption, no software can guarantee absolute security. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any loss of data, loss of access, or any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of this app.

Changes. This agreement may be updated in future versions of the app. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

9. Children's Privacy

NC Lock is a general-purpose utility app not directed at children under the age of 13. The app collects no data from any user, including children.

10. Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be published at the same URL with a new effective date. Because NC Lock collects no data, changes are unlikely to affect your privacy in any material way.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this privacy policy or NC Lock, you can reach the developer through the Google Play Store listing for NC Lock.
